Nestor

Nestor is the deputy manager of the Stash "N" Hoard, which is owned by his mother. He dislikes Scaredy Squirrel and he is considered one of Scaredy's frenemies. He usually just ignores Scaredy and tries to run the store, although his attitude with customers can be blamed on either him, or Scaredy. He occasionally teams up with or helps Scaredy. He is voiced by Patrick McKenna.

Appearance[]

Nestor

Nestor is a yellow bird (specifically a canary). He wears glasses, a white collared shirt, and a name tag. The portrayal of his shirt's sleeve length is inconsistent, with his shirt being shown as long-sleeved at some points and short-sleeved at others (along with the wings themselves).

Personality[]

"Nestor's mean, won't give anyone a chance. He thinks he's the boss, but his momma wears the pants." - Sally singing about Nestor in "Grand Olde Grocery"

Nester is short-tempered and a stickler for rules, frequently yelling at his employees for the tiniest infractions or for no reason at all. In Dream Weaver, Nestor is shown to enjoy making his employees cry, suggesting he's sadistic (not unlike his mother). Despite his love for rules and telling Stash "N" Hoard employees to get to work, Nestor himself often goofs around in his office when nobody else is around. Although all of the Stash "N" Hoard employees dislike Nestor,[1] it's shown in How to Succeed in Groceries that his leadership is necessary to keep the store in order as the Stash "N" Hoard quickly descends into chaos without him.

Nestor is also rather cowardly, being quick to scream and run away when he's scared or cry when he's upset. He is also shown to be insecure about not being liked by others and not being loved by his mother; he occasionally fantasizes about being a cooler version of himself that's adored by his mother and coworkers.[2][3] It's implied that he feels lonely, as he owns a book called "Learning to Love Loneliness".[2]

He can be described as the non-helpful type and usually ignores Scaredy. He shares some of his attitude with his mother, who owns the store (which isn't surprising since personalities are often genetic). Nestor usually dislikes Scaredy for unintentionally messing-up his store. Sometimes when Scaredy fixes the store after messing it up Nestor will often take credit for solving the problem and tries to look good in front of his mother even though she doesn't care at all. Sometimes when the store is destroyed and Nestor's mother returns from wherever she was going before they had time to clean it she will often blame the mess and destruction of the Stash 'N Hoard on Nestor. Just before she blames it on Nestor he will tell his mother that it was Scaredy and or Dave's fault for the destruction of the store and that always backfires on him.

Relationships[]

Scaredy Squirrel[]

Nestor states in There is no "I" in Groceries that he normally can't stand Scaredy, and frequently tries to get him fired. He acts mean towards Scaredy, often yelling at him, threatening him, disregarding Scaredy's feelings and suggestions, and taking pleasure in Scaredy's suffering (often caused by Nestor himself). Strangely though, Scaredy rarely if ever complains about it or even acts mean back. Nestor is occasionally able to put aside his differences with Scaredy and team up with him in order to take down a common enemy, including Paddy in Who's Your Paddy?, Lester in Less Nestorman, and the Sort a Fresh tub racing team in Tubtastic Tuo.

Family[]

Nestor is the son of Momma, whom he lives and works with. He is constantly seeking his mother's approval and acts in an obsequious manner towards her. His maternal grandmother appears in Mrs Nestor's Mother's Momma and "Abracagrandma". Nestor doesn't get along with his grandmother, claiming that she hates him and he's scared of her. In Less Nestorman, it's revealed that Nestor has a brother named Lester whom he dislikes. Nestor mentions an "Uncle Pete" in Tubtastic Tuo, but whether he gets along with him (or any relative for that matter) is a mystery.

Trivia[]

  • Nestor is usually referred to as a bird, but Mildred states that he's a chicken in The Coast is Fear. This is the only time his exact species is brought up in the show.
    • Sources however reveal that he is really a canary.
  • Mildred refers to Nestor as "Nestor Wingnut" in Double Double Squirrel in Trouble, indicating that his last name may be Wingnut.
  • Nestor has been working at the Stash "N" Hoard for at least ten years, as he appears in a ten-year-old Stash "N" Hoard security tape that's shown in "Hip to be Squirrel".
  • Nestor and Dave are the only characters shown to have at least one parent and sibling make an appearance in the show (both have a mother and brother each).
    • Coincidentally, both Nestor and Dave also have a poor relationship with the latter.
